SECONDARY
The early Secondary years correspond to the phase of growth where children become young adults. Physical and emotional change is supported by educational structures recognising the needs of adolescents. As students move through Junior and Middle Secondary, teaching at Heritage becomes more specialised. At the core of our curriculum is spiritual education and development. Within a biblical framework, literacy, numeracy, ICT, and research skills remain integrated as key foundations.
By Year 10, our students are expected to exercise more responsibility for their learning and behaviour. Our Year 10 students are given more responsibilities around the school and are given direction to begin considering their future career and study options. Our Secondary students have access to the Heritage Careers Website, which allows them to effectively explore the many future options available. Teachers and mentors also provide ongoing professional advice and resources to students and guardians, including excursions to career events.
In our Secondary School, there is also a strong emphasis on the further development of our school values, of respect, responsibility, resilience, and reflection. This is developed through sound personal discipline, organisational skills, and a wholesome balance of spiritual and academic life. Many opportunities exist for students to involve themselves in the co-curricular program and take leadership roles.
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Our Senior School provides a stimulating learning environment that continues to grow our students’ enthusiasm for knowledge. We place a lot of value in preparing our senior students for further study, the world of work, and a life lived according to the values in the Bible.
Past Heritage College students have created a strong tradition of excellent academic achievement leading to successful tertiary study as well as good skill development in vocational areas and successful transition to the workforce. There is also a strong emphasis on the development of sound personal discipline, organisational skills, and a wholesome balance of spiritual and academic life.
Many opportunities exist for students to involve themselves in the co-curricular program and take leadership roles. Students have access to a broad range of vocational programs and SACE subjects both at the College and through Marden Senior College and other providers. Class sizes are small, providing greater opportunity for individual instruction in these important years.
We also recognise that students achieve better results when their parents are involved in the school, so parents are encouraged to be a part of the Heritage community.
Our school captains, four chosen Year 12 students who actively demonstrate our school values, are given extra responsibilities and training opportunities. This allows them to help their classmates develop further, improve the school, and have increased knowledge and confidence for the future.
CO-CURRICULAR
Co-curricular activities are an important part of school life at Heritage and all students are encouraged to be involved.
Secondary students can join the senior orchestra, concert band, instrumental ensemble groups, and a variety of singing groups. Much of their activity culminates in major school functions, song and praise activities, and concerts. Every two years, the Secondary school also performs a musical.
There is a growing sports program involving cricket, basketball, squash, badminton, netball, and other sports.
Other special interest groups convene at various times depending on demand to provide students with the opportunity to pursue interests such as art, computer programming and coding, chess, and Bible study. In addition, there are outdoor camping opportunities and an exciting array of electives.
